The Arizona Landscape Contractors’ Association held its annual Golf Tournament at the FireRock Country Club in Fountain Hills, AZ on Thursday, May 5, 2016. Proceeds are dedicated to the Sky Blu Underwood Scholarship Program.
For decades, ALCA has been awarding qualified individuals who are serious about furthering their formal education in the Green Industry. The Green Industry Scholarship is funded by proceeds from the Sky Blu Underwood Golf Tournament. This year, the event recognized proceeds in the amount of over $9,000. Sky Blu Underwood was born in Phoenix in 1974 and was raised around the landscape industry. He often worked for his father during the summers at AAA Landscape. His roots were deeply entwined with the agricultural industry. Unfortunately, Sky did not live long enough to fulfill his dreams. This scholarship fund has been established to help other young people build their careers. Perhaps applicants can use their education to beautify the world with trees, flowers, and other green things...and carry on one of Sky's dreams.
With 160 players playing and competing at FireRock Country Club, the lowest score of 51 and taking the 1st place prize went to the FX Luminaire team: Kris Klein (FX Luminaire), Chris Griffin (Unique Landscape by Griffin), Mike Larchick (CYC Landscaping), and Chris Wentland (CYC Landscaping).
In second place was the team playing for Rodeo Ford consisting of Paul Bruccoleri, Larry Walton, Eric Berryman and Jim Mitchell.
Coming in 3rd place was the Unique Lighting/Toro Co. team consisting of Brian Qualls, Brian Whitcher and Brian Connolly (Service Direct Landscape, LLC).
The big $250 winner of the putting contest and only contestant able to sink the hole was Todd Huston with ISS Grounds Control. Todd generously donated most of his winnings back to the Sky Blu Scholarship Fund.
Thank you to Kelly O'Shaughnessy, Beth Postma, Karen Draeger, Tony Acosta, Monte Hoskins, Theresa Ruscetti, Becky Nunes, Nickie Velten, Sandy Roberts for volunteering to help with the registration and specialty holes.
