PROPER PRUNING TECHNIQUES

Use the 3-Cut Method when removing large or heavy branches to prevent the weight of the branch from tearing the bark below.

Spring flowering plants should be pruned after blooming. Late spring and summer flowering plants should be pruned in the late winter, or early spring, after last frost.

Plant-centered Care: Strive for natural growth habit of plant that results in natural form and beauty. Use the appropriate pruning technique to intentionally remove plant parts.

  • Renewal Pruning
  • Dead-heading
  • Ornamental Grass Pruning
  • Rejuvenation Pruning, also known as Hard Pruning

Remove no more than 25% of old branches annually
