Matthew Johnson

Director of Government Affairs

Back to Nature Landcare

Matthew has been involved in the landscape industry since the late 90's when serving on several HOA Board of Directors and then later as a property and community manager. Not having grown up in the landscape industry, Matthew quickly learned from various sources about urban horticulture. Having some experience and understanding of agriculture he was able to relate to the principles and how they are applied.

Since then Matthew has been certified through ALCA in Sustainable Landscape Management and will be ACLP certified in 2013. Additionally he has attended numerous seminars on landscape maintenance, installation, irrigation, and landscape business management. Matthew has given back to the industry by sharing his knowledge through educational presentations to Property and Community Managers, SmartScape students, and informational presentations to the American Society of Landscape Architects (Arizona), Green Committee for the Building Owners and Managers Association of Greater Phoenix, and community groups in the City of Scottsdale to name a few.

Matthew has also been published in national magazines such as Green Industry Pro and Turf Magazine, regional publications such as Southwest Trees and Turf, and local magazines such as ALCA Influence.

"ALCA has given me the opportunity to meet many industry professionals that are willing to share their knowledge and experiences which allows me to excel in this great industry. Anyone who doesn't take advantage of this competitive advantage is only hurting themselves and their customers", says Matthew.

Matthew goes on to say, "Having served just a blink of an eye in the scope of time in this association's history is an honor and a privilege. There have been so many great industry leaders provide this association with the solid foundation we sometimes take for granted. ALCA has taken old programs and updated them to fit the times and make it easier for the landscape knowledge to be spread to those willing to make an effort to take it. In this same time, the association has created new programs to support the membership and provide more value to the contractors and associate members."

Matthew spends his free time traveling with his wife and two children.
