2009 Awards Program
Arizona contractors, landscape architects and landscape designers were honored at “The Thirty-Third Annual Arizona Excellence in Landscaping Awards” program on November 21, 2009 at The Wigwam Resort - Litchfield Park, Arizona. The Arizona Landscape Contractors’ Association (ALCA) sponsors the awards.

This year Enchanted Garden Landscape, Inc. – accepted the “best of show” Presidential Award for the outstanding innovative work on a private residence in the category of Single Family Residential Installation Over $500,000. Sponsored by Sunrise Tree Farm.
The Xeriscape Award went to Enchanted Garden Landscape, Inc. for their outstanding water saving landscape design of Esperanza in the category Commercial Installation $500,001-$1,000,000. Sponsored by Ewing Irrigation Products.
This year the newest award, the Best Maintenance Practices Award for precise efforts of gardening, arbor care, turf care and irrigation practices, went to Desierto Verde, Inc. for a private residence in the category of Residential Maintenance . Sponsored by Rain Bird Corporation.
Dennis Canedy owner of Sunset Landscaping & Designs, Inc. was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Sponsored by DLC Resources.
The prestigious Landscape Contractor of the Year Award was given to James Potts, of Caretaker Landscape & Tree Management for his outstanding service to the Association and the industry. Sponsored by John Deere Landscapes
Michael Whitis of Ewing Irrigation Products received the Outstanding Customer Service Award for building the highest standards in industry customer services. Sponsored by West Coast Turf.
Associate Member of the Year Award went to Bob Franchetto of Horizon Distributors. Sponsored by Horizons Distributors, Inc.
The Budding Contractor of the Year goes to Aric Budden of Desert Bonsai Landscaping. Sponsored by Hunter Industries.
In addition to these signature awards, 60 projects received awards in 28 different categories of residential and commercial areas of installation, maintenance projects. Judging is based on projects designed and constructed in Arizona by professional contractors and is based on both technical and aesthetic aspects of each project based on guidelines set forth by the Arizona Landscape Contractors’ Association.
There are three types of awards given every year. They are described below.
Award of Excellence is given to only one project in a category. These projects must meet the highest standards of achievement, harmony with the environment and creativity with an evaluation score of over 90%. Below are this year's winners.
Award of Distinction is given to only one project in a category that demonstrates high levels of innovation and quality; adhere to strict landscaping industry standards and evaluation score of over 80%. Below are this year's winners.
